THE LEGEND RESURFACES

The Watch That Survived A Shark. The Story That Never Left Us.

In the summer of 1975, a small detail on the wrist of a young oceanographer made cinematic — and horological — history. As JAWS took to the screen, a rugged dive watch quietly claimed its place in legend. That watch was the Alsta Nautoscaph 'Superautomatic'.

Remember By Watch History

Richard Dreyfuss wore the Alsta Nautoscaph Superautomatic in his portrayal of Matt Hooper, Spielberg’s intrepid marine biologist in Jaws. But the watch was more than a prop — it was a true diver’s companion, known for its robustness, clarity, and classic 1970s design. While others have faded with time, the Superautomatic endures — a symbol of courage, craft, and curiosity beneath the surface.

More than a movie prop, the original Nautoscaph Superautomatic was a tool for real-world adventurers: divers, scientists, seafarers. As it surfaced on the silver screen, it quietly became a cult icon.

50 Years Later

In a remarkable twist of fate, one of these original Superautomatics - the watch worn in the movie Jaws - has found its way home. After a lifetime on the wrist and in the wild, the original Nautoscaph Superautomatic has returned to our atlier for its very first service. This is a rare moment. It's like opening a time capsule - every scratch, every imperfection tells a story.

Each detail has been carefully examined, each component gently revived by our expert watchmakers. This isn't just a restoration - it's a tribute to what the Nautoscaph stood for: adventure, precision, and enduring spirit.

Superautomatic 25

Alsta is proud to announce a new chapter in the Superautomatic story. Faithful to its roots and rebuilt with Swiss precision, the 2025 edition is more than a reissue - it's a tribute to those who seek what lies beyond the shore.

This is more than an homeage. It's the continuation of a story you're invited to write with every mile, every dive, every moment that calls for presence and preision.
